Stefan can’t ever truly let go of Elena for his brother like Damon did in 2x08 (Remember 1864: “I didn’t care if I had gotten something my brother wanted, I didn’t even care if it hurt him”). Damon chose his brother’s happiness over his own, and no matter how many times Stefan saves Damon’s life, he won’t be able to do what Damon did let go of the girl he loves for his brother. That’s why I believe that Damon is the better brother. He may not always be saving Stefan’s life, but at least he cares about Stefan’s happiness and he isn’t constantly putting down Stefan, saying negative things about him, and teasing him about his love for Elena. Stefan goes and saves Damon’s life and makes everyone think he’s a hero, but I’m not buying it. After saving Damon’s life, Stefan goes right back to saying negative things about him. “There’s nothing human left in Damon, only a monster, that must be stopped.” “You can be in love with Elena all you want, if it means you’ll protect her. (Teasing Damon about loving Elena)” “I have the one thing you never will. Her respect (Teasing again)” “You’re better than him, Elena.” “She’s sure as hell better off without you.”
